Government Announces Post Matric Scholarships for 69 Lakh Scheduled Caste Students in India

In a significant move towards promoting social justice and empowering marginalized communities, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, through the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, has unveiled a massive scholarship initiative for Scheduled Caste (SC) students. This initiative, known as the Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SC students for the Year 2023-24, aims to provide financial assistance to 69 lakh students from the SC community to pursue higher education.

Eligibility and Scope

Under this scheme, all recognized courses from class 11 onwards are covered. This inclusive approach ensures that SC students pursuing various educational paths, from school to college, can benefit from the scholarships. To be eligible, students must meet specific criteria, with a particular focus on those from the poorest households.

The primary eligibility criteria include parents’ or guardians’ annual income not exceeding Rs 2.50 lakhs. Additionally, students are entitled to scholarships to cover their compulsory non-refundable fees, including tuition fees. The academic allowance provided to students ranges from ₹2500 to ₹13500 per annum, depending on their course and level of education.

Moreover, the scheme recognizes the unique challenges faced by differently-abled students (Divyang) and offers them an additional 10% allowance. This thoughtful provision ensures that all SC students, regardless of their circumstances, can access the education they deserve.

Application Process

To avail themselves of these scholarships, eligible students need to apply through their respective State Scholarship Portals. To apply, students must have a valid mobile number, Aadhaar number (UID), Aadhaar-seeded bank account, income certificate, and caste certificate.

The application process involves a crucial role for the State Government or Union Territory, which accepts and verifies the applications. This verification step is vital to ensure that the scholarships reach the deserving students without any discrepancies.

Empowering Through Education

This initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is a significant step towards breaking barriers and ensuring equal access to quality education for SC students. It not only supports them financially but also encourages them to pursue their dreams and aspirations without the burden of education-related expenses.

Transparency and Accessibility
