PM Modi: Government’s Dedicated Efforts to Simplify Drafting Laws in Indian Languages
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking on September 23, emphasized his government’s earnest efforts to simplify the drafting of laws and to use Indian languages as much as possible.
During his inauguration of the International Lawyers’ Conference in New Delhi, PM Modi underscored the significant role that language plays in the legal process, especially in ensuring justice.
He stated, “In the Indian government, we are contemplating a two-fold approach to lawmaking. One draft will be in the language familiar to legal professionals,” addressing the audience comprising legal experts. “The second draft will be in a language that the common citizen of the country can comprehend. They should feel a sense of ownership towards the law.” PM Modi noted that there has been a historical practice of drafting laws in a complex and convoluted manner.
He praised the legal community, highlighting their pivotal role in India’s justice system and their historical contribution to India’s independence struggle. PM Modi pointed out that eminent figures like Mahatma Gandhi, B. R. Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were lawyers.
PM Modi also noted that the conference coincided with several significant milestones in India, including the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, which he believes will energize women-led development. He also mentioned India’s participation in the G20 Summit and the successful Chandrayaan mission.
In his closing remarks, PM Modi emphasized the importance of a robust and impartial justice system as the foundation for India’s aspirations to become a developed nation by 2047. He asserted that impartial justice plays a crucial role in fostering global trust in India.
