Labourer who Committed Suicide in the Assistant Labor Commissioner’s Office Dies

Jammu: An agitated labourer who committed self-immolation after going to the Assistant Labor Commissioner’s office to get the labour card renewed finally succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the GMC hospital. Kamal son Dhyan Chand, a resident of Arnia, had set himself on fire by spraying kerosene in the office of the Assistant Labor Commissioner at Dogra Hall in the city on November 16. He had suffered 65 per cent burns and died eight days later in the hospital.

Kamal Kumar died late on Monday night, after which the police took his body in possession and kept it in the mortuary for post-mortem. On the other hand, when the police reached GMC to get the post-mortem done on Tuesday, his family members started protesting there.

He had alleged that the police had been covering up the matter from the very beginning. Kamal was admitted to the hospital for eight days, but the police did not record his statement even once. He wanted to name the people who were blocking his work. He had made several trips to the Labor Commissioner’s office, but the employees there were not doing his job, due to which he got upset. Kamal used to work as a labourer, and through that card, he was expected to get wages in MNREGA and other works.

At the same time, the family members accused the doctors and said that they were also trying to save the corrupt employees of the Labor Commissioner’s office. He also did not allow Kamal’s statement to happen. Had Kamal’s statement been made, all those who forced him to die would have been trapped.

On November 16, eyewitnesses present in the Labor Commissioner’s office in the Assistant Commissioner’s office told that Kamal Kishor came out of the office in a fit of rage. He was standing in the office premises when he took out a bottle from his pocket and threw it on himself.

He then lit a match and set himself on fire. According to eyewitnesses, this incident happened so fast that they did not get a chance to save Kamal Kishore. On seeing the flames started coming out of Kamal Kishore’s body. At the same time, the police say that the matter is being investigated. Police on their own are also trying to find out the reasons behind this incident. A case will be registered against the accused found in the case.
