DIO Reasi Sensitizes Media on Code of Ethics and IT Rules, 2021

Reasi, December 03:The District Information Officer (DIO) Reasi, Mukesh Kumar Sharma, today convened a meeting with media persons of the district to sensitize them about the Code of Ethics, the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and other relevant laws governing print, electronic and digital media.Addressing the gathering, the DIO emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, adherence to ethical standards and compliance with statutory provisions to uphold the credibility of the media and maintain public trust. He informed that the Code of Ethics prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021 is mandatory for publishers of online news and current affairs content, including digital news portals and social media-based platforms.The DIO also apprised the media representatives about the registration requirements for both print media and digital news portals, stressing the need for timely registration and disclosure of requisite information with the competent authorities as mandated under the rules.On the occasion, Dy. SP Headquarters, Vishal Jamwal, also interacted with the media persons and emphasized the role of responsible and accurate reporting in maintaining law and order, social harmony and public confidence. He further highlighted the role of the police in the regulation of media under the provisions of law.The meeting witnessed active participation from media personnel, who were urged to work in close coordination with the district administration while ensuring accuracy, fairness and public interest in news dissemination.
